The US Congress Will Discuss the Environmental Impact of BTC Mining
The US Congress is preparing hearings on the impact of cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin mining on the environment, The Block has reported citing sources.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee will prepare a list of participants in the hearings, which may take place as early as at the end of this month.
During these hearings, representatives of the crypto industry will answer questions about the energy consumption of cryptocurrencies based on the Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm.
According to the Block, the committee became interested in the topic of mining after the ban of the activity in China and the massive relocation of some of the miners to the state of New York.
We should remember that in October, more than 70 environmental groups asked the Congress to start regulating cryptocurrency mining. In early December, Senator Elizabeth Warren asked New York-based mining company Greenidge for data on its activities.
