A Hacker Steals $3M from NFT Trader
An unidentified group has attacked and compromised the old smart contracts on the P2P platform NFT Trader, resulting in the unauthorized withdrawal of non-fungible tokens.
The project team confirmed the security breach and loss of tokens. Revoke Cash specialists estimated the total value of the stolen NFTs to be around $3 million, primarily consisting of items from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) collections.
Following the incident, an anonymous individual offered to return the NFTs in exchange for a 10% reward. The person claimed that they were not the original hacker, but had obtained the stolen tokens from another user.
“I am a good person. The value of these NFTs could have allowed me to live a luxurious life, but I don’t care. I prefer to collect scraps from leftovers. […] If you want the NFTs back, pay me the reward I deserve,” the individual wrote.
As a result of this development, Boring Security DAO announced that 36 BAYC and 18 MAYC tokens had been returned. The affected individuals will receive their tokens back for free, with the team covering 10% of the original cost.
