US Senator Urges Ministry of Justice and SEC to Investigate Crypto Broker Prometheum
US Senator Tommy Tuberville, along with numerous other Republicans in the House of Representatives – Blaine Luetkemeyer, Barry Loudermilk, Ralph Norman, Byron Donalds and Mark Alford – has called for the Justice Department and the SEC to investigate Prometheum’s digital asset broker activities.
In an open letter addressed to department heads Merrick Garland and Gary Gensler, Tuberville questioned Prometheum CEO Aaron Kaplan’s truthfulness regarding his congressional testimony, which might have mislead investors when filing reports to the SEC.
He noted discrepancies between Kaplan’s testimony of independent platform development since 2019 and documents filed with the SEC which acknowledge the company’s collaboration with Chinese partner Wanxiang.
Tuberville has also expressed his concern over the security and privacy of US investors, as Wanxiang is affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party.
These allegations were denied by Kaplan, citing Prometheum’s limited stake in Wanxiang as well as its lack of access to the company’s data and technologies.
