Experts from SlowMist have noticed that the hackers who breached the security of non-custodial wallet Atomic Wallet transferred 503 ETH to the THORChain platform and exchanged the stolen fronds for Bitcoin.
Causing more than $100 million in damages according to Elliptic’s assessment and a figure of $21.7 million according to SlowMist’s count of 333 compromised addresses.
Analysts also noted that the assets were laundered through Sinbad.io mixing service and also transferred to Garantex, a Russian exchange which is under US sanctions.
They have also associated the attack with North Korean hackers and the Lazarus Group. In response to all of this, the law enforcement of Kazakhstan has questioned the management of Atomic Wallet.
