Sam Bankman-Fried Wants Court to Drop Some of the Charges Against Him
The lawyers of Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the now-defunct FTX exchange, are asking the court to dismiss most of the charges against him prior to the start of the main trial.
The defense is seeking to reject all but the charges related to conspiracy to commit securities fraud, commodities fraud, and money laundering.
In seven separate applications, they argued that many of the counts are duplicative or refer to the same article, and some appeared only after Bankman-Fried was extradited to the United States.
The defense further claimed that the government had made hasty assumptions about the defendant and that the flaws that led to the collapse of FTX are common in the crypto market.
They also argued that FTX’s failure was due to the harsh crypto winter and not to credit manipulation or the inability to sustain the native FTT token.
