Former Coinone Employee is Arrested in Bribery Case
An ex-staff member of the South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Coinone has been apprehended for supposedly taking a bribe, according to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutor’s Office, as reported by local media outlets.
The defendant, identified as Jung, is alleged to have gained 1.9 billion won (roughly $1.47 million) in 2020 from a broker whose token was listed on Coinone.
The prosecutor’s office declined to disclose Jung’s full name, citing confidentiality regulations. They further highlighted that they are looking into a situation regarding similar accusations against the Chief Executive Officer of Bithumb, Lee Sang-jun, though the police have not yet released an arrest warrant.
The investigation may include other domestic crypto exchanges in the future, such as Upbit, Korbit, and Gopax, who are supposedly suspected of illicitly listing digital assets.
