CFTC Head Denies Rumors About Fight with SEC for Crypto Regulation
The head of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Rostin Behnam, has denied the confrontation with the SEC on the regulation of cryptocurrencies, despite different views on their classification.
Benham has acknowledged at an event in New York that discussions about whether Bitcoin and Ethereum are securities or commodities give the impression of the SEC fighting the CFTC. However, he called this suggestion “rather cynical.”
Benham has expressed this month confidence that the two largest cryptocurrencies fall under the jurisdiction of his department. Similarly, most digital assets are treated in a bill introduced by Senators Cynthia Lummis and Kirsten Gillibrand.
