Experts Discover Over 1,500 Fraudulent Sites Targeting Crypto Investors in 8 Months
According to research conducted by Kaspersky Lab specialists, over 1,500 fraudulent resources aimed at crypto investors and users interested in mining have been recorded since January 2021.
The most common schemes are the creation of fake Bitcoin exchange sites, the distribution of messages about the sale of mining equipment and the distribution of phishing pages in order to steal the private keys granting access to crypto wallets.
Regarding fake exchange sites, the attackers allegedly give a coupon to replenish an account on the platform. However, in order to use it, the user must make a “verification payment,” which usually involves about 0.005 BTC. Experts said:
“A distinctive feature of phishing and other types of cryptocurrency fraud is the high level of detail in website preparation. For example, on fake crypto-exchanges, real data are often loaded from existing exchanges. “
