Coin Center Files Lawsuit Against US Treasury
Coin Center, an organization for the promotion and protection of the interests of the crypto industry, has recently filed a lawsuit against the US Department of the Treasury and its division OFAC in relation of the sanctions against the Tornado Cash mixer. According to the organization, these violate the rights of US citizens.
The organization argues individuals have a legitimate reason to use tools focused on improving the privacy of transactions. According to the document, the OFAC’s actions deprive them of the ability to “conduct legal activities with a certain degree of anonymity.”
The document also names US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and OFAC Director Andrea Gacki as defendants. In addition to Coin Center, the plaintiffs are software developer Patrick O’Sullivan, Bankless co-owner David Hoffman and an unnamed human rights activist.
