US Government Intensifies Work on National CBDC
An interagency working group under the US presidential administration will start regular meetings to study the launch of the country’s CBDC or digital dollar.
National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen have said that the White House, Treasury and other executive agencies want to support the Fed’s ongoing exploration of the digital dollar.
The US reportedly wants to prepare for a CBDC issuance should the Treasury decides the initiative is in the country’s best interest.
According to administration officials, the decision would ultimately be made by the Fed. Agency Vice Chair has Lael Brainard said earlier that the digital dollar is not at the top of their agenda.
