MetaMask and OpenSea Are Ready to Block Users From Sanctioned Countries
The developers of non-custodial wallet MetaMask have recently warned that users from some jurisdictions may lose access to the application, according to an announcement made on the support section of the project’s site.
According to the publication, potential blockages are associated with the restriction of the Infura infrastructure platform in several countries. The team has attributed the move to the need to “comply with the law.”
The announcement includes a screenshot of the error message that pops up when users try to connect from the affected regions. However, the list of jurisdictions in which the wallet is not available has not been published.
Users from Venezuela, Lebanon and Iran have reported problems accessing the wallet.
Users are also reporting problems to access the NFT marketplace OpenSea. In particular, the platform is not accessible from Iranian IPs.
