Samsung Applies for Residency in the Ukrainian Diya.City
South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics has just applied for residency under the special legal regime of Ukraine Diya City, the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mikhail Fedorov has announced.
The official online store of Samsung devices opened in Ukraine in December 2021.
According to the minister, after three days after the launch of Diya City, more than 50 companies applied to join.
Among the first applicants were Ukrainian company Reface, whose face-sharing mobile app gained 100 million downloads in 14 months, and the Roosh project, which creates products based on artificial intelligence. Fedorov said:
“At the Diya Summit, British fintech company Revolut, US-based UST and one of Ukraine’s largest IT companies, SoftServe, announced their intention to become residents.”
He has added a special legal and tax regime for IT companies will allow Ukraine to increase the industry’s revenue from $6 billion to $18 billion by 2025, and the number of jobs to 500,000.
In August 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a basic law on the creation of a special legal regime for Diya City, which establishes a special tax model for IT companies and a separate procedure for interaction with state regulatory authorities.
