Thai SEC Considering Tokenized Securities Trading Platform
The Thai Securities and Exchange Commission is developing a trading platform using distributed ledger technology for securities firms to trade digital tokens, according to a report by the Bangkok Post on Feb. 3.
The organization’s deputy secretary-general stated that the demand for token investments is increasing and that the SEC aims to capitalize on this by allowing securities companies to trade digital tokens to reach their large investor base.
This initiative aims to improve efficiency in the capital market by implementing an electronic securities ecosystem. Jomkwan Kongsakul also mentioned that new regulations will be introduced to facilitate the issuing of electronic securities and allow for online purchases of debentures, which are used by large companies to borrow funds.
The report noted that the SEC has already approved four digital token projects for their DLT debt instrument trading system, and is currently reviewing two more with a focus on green tokens and investment-based projects.
