Crypto Advertisers Required to Register with FCA for Ads Targeting British Users
Effective January 2025, any Google advertisements promoting digital asset exchanges and wallets within the United Kingdom must be registered with the country’s financial services regulator.
This new policy update requires that crypto exchange advertisers in the UK must adhere to specific criteria in order to advertise their products and services. In order to advertise their services, crypto exchanges and software wallets must be registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
Google has also stated that they will permit ads for hardware wallets, as long as they are solely designed for storage of private keys for cryptocurrencies, NFTs, or other digital assets, without offering additional services such as buying, selling, or trading.
Although Google Ads has not outlined any specific requirements for advertising hardware wallets, they do expect all advertisers to comply with local laws and regulations. This policy applies globally to all accounts that advertise financial products.
