SEC Promises to Increase Oversight of Crypto Exchanges
The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will increase its oversight of cryptocurrency exchanges as part of the tightening of measures against digital assets, Bloomberg reports.
The SEC Chairman Gary Gensler has said he hopes digital asset trading platforms will take steps in the coming months to be “more specifically” regulated by the agency.
According to him, additional oversight is critical to giving cryptocurrency investors the same protections they get when trading stocks or other traditional assets.
Gensler has earlier called on the US Congress to develop a regulatory framework for crypto exchanges and expand investor protection rules to platforms.
He has repeatedly asked trading platforms to dialogue with the regulator.
He believes regulation is necessary for the survival of cryptocurrencies.
