Court Denies Tornado Cash Developer Alexey Pertsev Bail
Alexey Pertsev, the creator of the crypto mixing platform Tornado Cash, which has been sanctioned by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), has been refused bail by the court while his lawyers work on submitting an appeal for charges of money laundering.
His defense lawyer, Keith Cheng, told DL News that the decision to deny bail was unexpected. He also mentioned that a request for Pertsev to have access to a computer to prepare for his appeal was also rejected.
The court stated that Pertsev’s continued detention would not affect his ability to prepare for his defense, and allowing computer access would go against their safety protocols.
However, Pertsev’s lawyer, Judith de Boer, disagreed with the court’s ruling and called the pre-trial detention on such crucial legal matters “unacceptable.”
