Dormant Wallet with $60M in Bitcoin Makes First Funds Transfers in 12 Years
A previously inactive Bitcoin wallet that contained 1,000 BTC (currently worth over $60 million) was used to transfer funds for the first time in almost 12 years on Sunday.
This wallet had received the Bitcoin 11 years and 9 months prior, but had not made any outgoing transactions until now. However, the transaction was initially broadcasted on January 19, 2024, as shown by data from Blockchain.com.
When the wallet first received the Bitcoin, it was worth a modest $12,100 based on historical price data. But after holding onto it for almost 12 years, the value of the coins has increased by a mind-boggling 500,000%.
Despite this massive increase in value, the purpose of the transfer and ownership of the wallet remain unknown.
