Paul Atkins is Sworn in as New SEC Chairman
Paul Atkins, appointed by President Trump as the chair of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, officially assumed his role on April 21.
Known for his support of crypto and financial innovation, Atkins takes the position as the SEC’s 34th chairman, confirmed by the agency.
In a statement, he expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by President Trump and the Senate, emphasizing his commitment to working with Commissioners and SEC professionals to advance the mission of facilitating capital formation, maintaining orderly markets, and protecting investors.
Previously, Atkins pledged to create clear regulatory guidelines for digital assets. During Senate testimony last month, he highlighted his priority to establish a “rational, coherent, and principled” framework to encourage innovation and reduce market uncertainty.
He also noted that unclear regulations can hinder growth and promised to focus on investor protection, depoliticizing regulation, and ensuring effective oversight.
