South Korea’s Crypto Exchange Users Hit 16M
Data submitted to Rep. Cha Gyu-geun of the Rebuilding Korea Party reveals that South Korea’s cryptocurrency investors have reached 16.29 million as of February.
This accounts for nearly 32% of the population. The data, gathered from the top five virtual asset exchanges—Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Korbit, and Gopax—indicates consistent growth throughout 2024.
The number of crypto investors surpassed 14 million in March 2024. After Donald Trump’s election as U.S. President in November, an additional 500,000 people joined the market, pushing the total past 15 million.
Industry experts predict further growth, with some expecting the number of cryptocurrency investors to soon reach 20 million. An industry official told The Korea Herald:
“Some believe the crypto market has reached a saturation point, but there is still endless potential for growth compared to the mature stock market.”
