Kentucky Governor Signs Bitcoin Rights Bill into Law
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has signed the “Bitcoin Rights” bill, House Bill 701, into law, providing protections for cryptocurrency users.
Introduced by Representative Adam Bowling on February 19, the legislation aims to safeguard individuals’ rights to use digital assets and self-custody wallets while prohibiting discriminatory local zoning changes against crypto mining.
It also provides guidelines for operating a crypto node, exempts crypto mining from money transmitter license requirements, and clarifies that mining and staking are not considered securities offerings. The bill passed unanimously in both the Kentucky House and Senate before Governor Beshear signed it on March 24.
