SEC Dismisses its Lawsuit Against Coinbase
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced its decision to file a joint stipulation with Coinbase Inc. and Coinbase Global Inc., effectively dismissing the ongoing civil enforcement action against these entities.
On January 21, 2025, the SEC introduced the Crypto Task Force, a group focused on creating a comprehensive and transparent regulatory framework for crypto assets. In light of the upcoming work by this task force, the Commission decided to close this case.
Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda stated, “For the last several years, the Commission’s views on crypto have been largely expressed through enforcement actions without engaging the general public.
It’s time for the Commission to rectify its approach and develop crypto policy in a more transparent manner. The Crypto Task Force is designed to do just that.”
