Argentina President Denies Involvement in LIBRA Project
Argentina’s President Javier Milei yesterday denied promoting a cryptocurrency that subsequently collapsed, resulting in significant financial losses for investors and triggering a wave of complaints, as reports surfaced that prosecutors were preparing to investigate the matter.
“I did not promote it; I simply shared information,” Milei stated in an interview with broadcaster TN, emphasizing that “this is an issue among private parties, as the State has no involvement here.” He insisted, “I acted in good faith.”
News reports indicated that Argentina’s federal prosecutor’s office would explore whether Milei had engaged in fraud, criminal association, or breached his duties when he endorsed the $LIBRA cryptocurrency on social media on Friday evening.
Following an initial surge in the currency’s value, it later plummeted, prompting Milei to retract his endorsement, admitting he had made an error.
