Crypto exchange Coinbase has announced that it has received regulatory approval to offer its services to users in Argentina.

The company obtained a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration from Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV), marking a significant step in its mission to expand economic freedom globally. This move follows the successful launch of Coinbase’s services in Brazil last year, marking its entry into the Latin American region.

Coinbase reports that approximately 5 million Argentinians utilize crypto daily, with 76% of adults viewing crypto as a potential solution to financial challenges such as high inflation and transaction costs. Matìas Alberti, a former fintech executive at Buenbit and Clara, will lead operations in Argentina.

Coinbase shares experienced little change at the start of Nasdaq trading today. They have risen by 8% this year to $277.84 at press time, largely mirroring the price movement of Bitcoin.
