SEC Unveils a Crypto Task Force
The Securities and Exchange Commission has recently announced the launch of a crypto task force to create a regulatory structure for digital assets.
This initiative, led by Republican commissioner Hester Peirce, is the first official action of acting chair Mark Uyeda, who was appointed by President Trump. Uyeda will serve until Trump’s permanent pick for the role is confirmed by the Senate.
In November, Peirce, also known as “Crypto Mom” in the industry, had expressed interest in leading such a task force. The goal of the task force is to work closely with industry players and establish an open dialogue that will result in a more favorable regulatory environment.
Their focus will be to create clear regulatory guidelines, devise sensible disclosure frameworks, and use enforcement resources wisely.
The task force will also collaborate with other federal agencies, including the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which is expected to play a bigger role in regulating cryptocurrencies.
