Czech National Bank May Add Bitcoin to its Reserves
During an interview on Monday, Aleš Michl, governor of the Czech National Bank (ČNB), discussed the possibility of adding Bitcoin to the bank’s reserve diversification strategy. However, he clarified that while he had suggested it, there are currently no plans to acquire any cryptocurrency.
Michl explained in an interview with CNN Prima News that he sees Bitcoin as an interesting option for diversification against other assets, but it would require the approval of the seven-person board.
He also mentioned that he had thought of acquiring a small amount of Bitcoin, but not as a significant investment.
The Czech Republic is not the only country considering cryptocurrency purchases. In September 2021, El Salvador became the first country to officially roll out a Bitcoin treasury program, and since then, many politicians around the world, including in the US, have expressed plans to invest in Bitcoin.
