South Korea Imposes Sanctions on 15 North Koreans Crypto Hackers
Governments around the world are actively pursuing North Korean hackers, holding them responsible for over half of the cryptocurrency stolen in 2024.
The notorious Lazarus Group is a key suspect in major Web3 cyber thefts, including the $600 million Ronin network hack.
Recently, South Korea has imposed sanctions on 15 members of North Korean IT organizations and one affiliated group.
These sanctioned individuals are accused of obtaining funds for North Korea’s nuclear missile development program and the DPRK’s Munitions Industry Department through foreign currency-earning activities.
The 313th General Bureau’s Kim Cheol-min, a sanctioned individual, allegedly earned a large amount of foreign currency by working in secret for companies in the United States and Canada and funnelling the funds to Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons program.
