Montenegro Denies Do Kwon Extradition to US
An appeals court in Montenegro has rejected the United States’ request for the extradition of Do Kwon, the former CEO of Terraform Labs.
The court stated that he will be sent to his home country of South Korea instead. The decision upheld a previous ruling made by the High Court of Podgorica in late June, as announced in a statement released by the appeals court on Thursday.
Kwon and his lawyers have been in a legal battle for months on where he should face charges, with Kwon reportedly preferring South Korea where the maximum sentence for financial crimes is typically 30 to 40 years.
In contrast, the US follows a principle where consecutive sentences can be imposed for each crime a defendant is found guilty of.
