Circle has received approval to issue MiCA-compliant stablecoins, making it the first global issuer to do so.

CEO Jeremy Allaire announced the news at a press conference in Paris and stated that Circle’s stablecoins, USDC and EURC, will now operate within the regulatory framework.

This development follows Circle’s previous efforts to comply with regulations in the stablecoin space, including obtaining a digital asset regulatory license in France and appointing a Head of French Operations last December.

These stablecoins will be released in Europe under Circle’s French entity. As of June 28, USDC is the second largest USD-pegged stablecoin, accounting for 20% of the total stablecoin supply.
