SEC Closes its Investigation into Ethereum 2.0
According to a recent announcement from Consensys, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has concluded its investigation into Ethereum 2.0 and will no longer pursue legal action against ETH sales for being securities transactions.
This is considered a significant victory for Ethereum developers and companies, as it removes any doubts or concerns that could have hindered the growth of the platform.
In March, an update on the Ethereum Foundation’s GitHub repository revealed that the organization was being investigated by a state authority, although no specific details were provided.
Following this discovery, Fortune reported that the SEC had launched an aggressive legal campaign to classify Ethereum as a security. The uncertainty surrounding Ethereum’s status as a security intensified after Consensys filed a lawsuit against the SEC in April.
One of the company’s goals in the lawsuit was to obtain a court ruling that would officially declare Ether (ETH) as not being a security.
