Bitwise Files Application for Spot Ether ETF
Bitwise has filed a registration statement with the SEC to list and trade shares of their Ethereum ETF.
This comes amid speculation that the SEC may consider Ether a security, potentially affecting future listings of spot ETFs. Bitwise plans to list these shares on NYSE Arca and was one of the first companies to gain SEC approval for a Bitcoin ETF.
The decision on approving or denying the latest round of ETH ETF applications will be made by May 23, starting with VanEck’s proposal.
While some experts believed approval was likely by 2023, others suggest it could take until 2024 for the SEC to make a decision.
Other firms, such as Fidelity, Hashdex, and ARK 21Shares, also have pending applications for spot ETH ETFs. The SEC began approving investment vehicles based on Ether futures in October 2023.
