Montenegro Court Rules Do Kwon Should Be Extradited to South Korea
The High Court in Podgorica, Montenegro, has ruled that Do Kwon, co-founder and former CEO of Terraform Labs, should be extradited to his native South Korea instead of the United States. This decision can still be appealed.
The Court of Appeals overturned the initial decision to extradite Kwon to the United States on March 5, citing serious violations of criminal procedure. South Korea had submitted an extradition request in March 2023, which was initially rejected in favor of a request from the United States.
Kwon has been in custody in Montenegro since he was arrested at the airport in Podgorica while trying to travel to Dubai with a fraudulent Costa Rican passport.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Montenegrin authorities were tipped off about Kwon’s presence in the country by an informant the day before he was scheduled to leave.
