British Police Seize 200 Crypto Wallets Belonging to Hacker Group LockBit
The UK National Crime Agency has revealed the details of their operation to seize the servers belonging to the LockBit hacker group.
Two members of the group were detained by law enforcement in Poland and Ukraine and are accused of carrying out ransomware attacks.
They are now under arrest and will face charges in the United States in the near future. Charges have also been brought against two Russian citizens, Artur Sungatov and Ivan Kondratyev, who were involved in distributing the ransomware.
The US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has blocked ten cryptocurrency wallets linked to the group, including those on popular exchanges such as Binance and KuCoin.
In total, over 200 cryptocurrency addresses associated with LockBit have been frozen. A $10 million reward is being offered for information leading to the identity and whereabouts of a member of the group known as LockBitSupp.
As part of the operation, law enforcement also seized 34 LockBit servers and obtained access to the source code of the platform by infiltrating their partner network.
