BBVA Uses Ripple’s Platform for Crypto Storage

BBVA, one of the largest banks in Spain, has transferred its cryptocurrency storage services in Switzerland to Ripple-owned Metaco Harmonize platform.

It was the first big bank in the eurozone to offer clients access to Bitcoin in June 2021, expanding to Ethereum later.

The depositary service’s move to Harmonize will allow BBVA to connect to other blockchains and offer new services, such as altcoin trading and tokenization of real assets.

In May 2021, Ripple Labs acquired Metaco for $250 million, and it now operates as a separate business within the California fintech company.

Metaco’s cryptocurrency custodial platform, Harmonize, is popular among institutional investors.
