Ontario Securities Commission: Canada’s Users Are Losing Interest in Crypto
Over the course of a year, the percentage of Canadians who expressed regret about investing in cryptocurrencies increased from 68% to 77%, according to a survey conducted by the Ontario Securities Commission.
The study was conducted in May-June 2022 on a representative sample of 2,360 Canadian citizens in collaboration with Ipsos.
However, the number of people who reported owning digital assets only amounted to 10%, as compared to 13% in a similar survey in 2022.
Of those who invested in cryptocurrency in the previous year, only 39% stated that their portfolio was currently worth more than their initial investment, a decrease from 46% in the previous year’s survey.
There has also been a decline in the belief that cryptocurrencies play a key role in the financial ecosystem, with only 26% of respondents holding this view, down from 38% in the previous year.
Additionally, the number of Canadians who anticipate cryptocurrencies becoming a key part of the financial system in the future has dropped from 49% to 34% over the course of a year.
Only 20% of respondents have plans to purchase cryptocurrency in the future, a decrease from 31% in the previous year’s survey.
