Kenyan Parliament Calls for Worldcoin’s Shutdown
A Kenyan parliamentary committee tasked with investigating the Worldcoin project has asked the country’s regulators to order its closure.
The Ministry of Interior had previously limited the startup’s operations in order to assess potential risks to public safety, thus giving rise to the initiation of an investigation.
Last August 5, police officers seized documentation and equipment as part of an interagency team. According to the report, the agents transferred the Worldcoin property to the Criminal Investigation Department headquarters for analysis.
According to the report, the project continues to collect personal data of Kenyans in total disregard of the cease and desist order.
The lawmakers have called on authorities to shut down the startup’s virtual platforms and also investigate possible criminal charges.
