Amount of Assets Stolen by Cybercriminals Hits Record in September: Analysts
A report released by TRM Labs revealed a concerning trend of high activity among North Korean hackers last month. TRM Labs found that in 2023, hackers from North Korea successfully stole a total of $340 million worth of digital currencies.
Not only North Korean hackers, but hackers from other countries are constantly upgrading their techniques in hacking DeFi protocols.
PeckShield reported that since the start of this year, cybercriminals have caused a total of $1.5 billion in damages to cryptocurrency projects.
In the month of September alone, 22 projects were hacked and $355.91 million in digital assets were stolen, according to PeckShield’s study.
September has been the most profitable month for hackers so far, as they managed to steal a total of $457 million in cryptocurrencies, surpassing the first half of 2023.
The most significant attack in September was on the Mixin Network project, which resulted in the loss of $300 million in digital assets.
