US Congressman Revives Bill Against Central Bank Digital Currencies
On September 12, Tom Emmer, the House Republican Majority leader, along with 49 other co-sponsors, reintroduced a bill to protect “financial privacy” in order to block the introduction of what he terms a “tracker CBDC” from unelected bureaucrats in Washington.
The bill, which seeks to prevent the Fed from using the digital dollar to implement monetary policy and control the economy, and which limits access to technology for individuals, has been actively supported by Senators French Hill, Warren Davidson and Mike Flood.
Emmer has strongly decried CBDC technology, which he believes infringes on American values, privacy, individual sovereignty and the free market, and for which he views control by authorities over ordinary citizens, as its symbol.
