On Friday, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire announced that the company, renowned for stablecoins, is intensifying its focus on web3 services by introducing programmable wallets. Allaire indicated that this wallet launch marks the initial step toward introducing more web3 services, including upcoming features like stablecoin cross-chain payments and a simplified smart contract development platform.

In a Twitter thread, Allaire expressed his belief in the rising prominence of web3, stating that major internet companies, brands, and enterprises are likely to integrate web3 elements into their offerings.

He also noted that fintech, payment firms, and financial institutions will adopt web3 for tokenization, payments, and financial applications.

Circle had quietly introduced developer-friendly programmable wallets in early July, aiming to establish a “wallets-as-a-service” framework, allowing customers to conveniently access cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and other digital assets across various blockchains.
