Polygon Wants to Convert MATIC Tokens Into POL
Polygon Labs has proposed to replace their MATIC utility tokens with the new POL tokens.
This transition is pending community approval, and it could be finalized within a few months if the consensus is reached.
The goal of this update is to improve scalability while maintaining security.
The POL token is applicable to all blockchains in the Polygon ecosystem, from the proposed PoS sidechain and zkEVM to Supernets.
This will allow validators to secure transactions running across numerous networks.
Additionally, the POL token will efficiently serve as the tool for organizing and developing the Polygon network, creating a “layer of value” for the internet. This means validators can operate in multiple networks of their choice and can carry out various functions within each blockchain.
