On-chain Analyst ZachXBT Suspects Participation of Blogger in $1.5M Scam
Known as Blue and Jack, an influencer garnered over $1.5 million in revenue through playing Monkey Drainer and other similar phishing schemes, according to a blockchain analyst with the pseudonym ZachXBT.
Monkey Drainer is a set of tools used for ice phishing, a scam which lures Web3 users into signing a permission to use their crypto wallet, enabling full access to their funds.
With 122,000 subscribers on YouTube, Blue amassed an audience through gaming and trolling videos before delving into the digital assets sphere in 2021.
Based on the leaked messages from the influencer’s Snapchat, ZachXBT came to the realization that the ENS address cool-breeze.eth, which purchased the Bored Ape Yacht Club #8668 token in October 2022, was associated with them.
This conclusion was drawn from studying the history of the 85 ETH spent on the purchase, of which approximately a third was connected to wallets linked to the Monkey Drainer platform; the total damage totaled around $24 million.
In February, the service ceased operation with the advice that “all young cybercriminals should not lose themselves in the pursuit of easy money” and urged users to use the Venom resource as an alternative.
