Greek Central Bank Chief Yannis Stournaras Says ECB Rate Hikes Might End This Year

Yannis Stournaras, a dove on the ECB’s 26-member Governing Council, stated in an interview with imerisia.gr that the monetary tightening cycle should end this year, barring any dramatic changes.

He added that rates should remain where they are currently, or higher, until inflation is close to the 2% target.

The chief of the Greek Central Bank also expressed his belief that Greece is close to regaining an investment grade rating.

He noted that the new government which will take over after the May 21 elections must implement the proper fiscal policy for this to happen.
