The US Department of Justice has reported that Gary Harmon, the brother of Helix cryptocurrency mixer founder Larry Harmon, has been sentenced to four years and three months in prison for stealing 712 BTC (valued at over $20 million at the time of writing) from a device seized by authorities.

In February 2020, Larry Harmon was arrested for laundering more than $300 million through darknet markets from 2014 to 2017, leading to the confiscation of various assets, including a BTC storage device.

Gary Harmon then used his brother’s accounts to transfer the BTC to his own address, thus preventing its confiscation.

He also utilized two cryptocurrency mixers and spent some of the stolen funds.

In January 2023, Gary Harmon pleaded guilty to wire fraud and obstruction of justice, agreeing to return the seized assets, including 647.41 BTC, 2.14 ETH, and 17,404,400.64 DOGE.
