Hackers Steal About $13M from Crypto Exchange GDAC
Approximately $13 million worth of digital currencies were stolen from South Korean crypto exchange GDAC‘s hot wallet, comprising about 23% of the total assets on the platform.
60.8 BTC, 350.5 ETH, 10,000 WEMIX tokens, and 220,000 USDT were taken by the hackers. In light of this, the platform team has suspended withdrawals and deposits, contacted regulators and law enforcement for investigation, and asked centralized trading platforms and DeFi protocols to freeze any potential withdrawals.
Han Seunghwan, GDAC’s CEO, has stated that they are doing their best to reverse the situation by working with various organizations.
The exchange also conducts quarterly audits of the adequacy of reserves with the help of a third-party accounting firm, and the provision of user deposits is currently above 100%.
