UK-based Starling Bank has decided to ban the purchase of cryptocurrencies through payment cards and introduced additional restrictions on transfers related to digital assets.

According to a representative of the institution:

“Innovative technology and the underlying thinking behind cryptocurrencies has great potential. However, right now they pose a high risk and are widely used for criminal purposes. Therefore, we no longer support them.”

The bank’s decision has been criticized by members of the community, who have noted that some restrictions on crypto activity by banks seem reasonable, but not a complete ban.

A user with the nickname SovrynBTC wondered why financial institutions do not care about many other types of risky transactions of their clients.
