Bluesky Says it is Independent from Twitter
Bluesky, a project to develop an open decentralized social media standard, has said it is independent of Twitter and its majority shareholder following Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
The Bluesky team has decided to “clarify the relationship” between the companies after the decision of Twitter management to sell the social network to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
Jack Dorsey announced in 2019 the creation of a social media decentralization initiative funded by Twitter. In February 2022, Bluesky PBLLC appeared. According to the post:
“Both Twitter and Bluesky realized that our independence was important to the success of the project, so they created an independent company [Bluesky PBLLC] to ensure we serve the broadest possible interests.”
Bluesky has said that Jack Dorsey remains a member of the board, and the project has received $13 million in funding to ensure the freedom and independence to start research and development.
